Today hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager certainly understood Pedro Pascal‘s drunk acceptance speech at the SAG awards this past weekend, where The Last Of Us star admitted that he didn’t expect to win.

“He was just drinking. You know when you go to a show and you’re like, I don’t have a shot at this, let’s just have some fun,” Kotb told her co-host.

“That would be us if we went to the Daytime Emmys,” Bush Hager joked.

“Right, because we never quite win that one,” Kotb fired back.

The Today co-hosts were nominated for Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Talk Show Host in both 2020 and 2021, though Kotb did win in the former category for her work on The Today Show.

She also won Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2019 with her former Today co-host Kathie Lee Gifford, who exited the show that year.

On Today, Kotb and Bush Hager also praised the Ted Lasso cast for changing into matching AFC Richmond track suits during the SAG afterparty to celebrate their final awards season together. The viral moment inspired the Today hosts for their own future win.

“If we ever win an Emmy…,” Kotb began telling her co-host.

“We’ll wear track suits,” Bush Hager replied. “We’ll wear Hoda & Jenna tracksuits. Do you think they call and tell you you’re gonna win the Emmy first?”

Kotb replied with a shrug and said, “Well we keep showing up and we don’t win.”

“We keep losing,” Bush Hager said in agreement. “OK, maybe next year.”

Fingers crossed!
