Prepare yourself for battle, because FX’s long-awaited new show Shōgun is finally here.

Shōgun is based on the best-selling novel by James Clavell. Japanese warlord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) has found himself outmaneuvered by his rivals, which could not only mean death for him and all his followers, but a brutal future ahead for Japan. However, the sudden arrival of a Protestant European ship to the nation’s shores upends the delicate balance of power. Toranaga pulls the ship’s English navigator, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), into his orbit as a tool to gain footing on his enemies. Meanwhile, Blackthorne discovers just how much he has to learn from Toranaga, the beautiful translator Mariko (Anna Sawai), and the rest of Japanese culture.

Shōgun was created by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo and marks one of the first times Hollywood has invested so much in bringing the world of feudal Japan to life onscreen. Most of the actors are based in Japan and most of the dialogue is spoken in Japanese with English subtitles. Shōgun truly makes you feel like you’re being transported to 1600 Japan.
