Shane Gillis is continuing his comeback tour with a new scripted series, which will premiere on Netflix in May.

The six-episode workplace comedy — titled Tires — is based on a pilot concept Gillis previously posted on YouTube, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will follow a “nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain” who “attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee.”

Aside from starring in the series, Gillis will further serve as an executive producer, writer and co-creator. Tires will also star Steven Gerben, Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox and Stavros Halkias and will have guest appearances by Andrew Schulz, THR reports.

The news comes mere days after Gillis made his highly anticipated return to Saturday Night Live after getting fired in 2019 for making racist and homophobic jokes on a podcast.

“I’m a comedian who pushes boundaries,” Gillis posted on X following the controversy. “I sometimes miss. If you go through my 10 years of comedy, most of it bad, you’re going to find a lot of bad misses. I’m happy to apologize to anyone who’s actually offended by anything I’ve said.”

The comedian even poked fun at his firing at the start of his eight-minute opening monologue during Saturday night’s (Feb. 24) taping.

“Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I was actually — I was fired from this show a while ago,” he said, per Entertainment Tonight. “But, you know, don’t look that up, please. If you don’t know who I am, please don’t Google that. It’s fine. Don’t even worry about it.”

Gillis hit an awkward snag in his bit after joking about his family members having Down syndrome, noting that they are “doing better than everybody I know” and “are the only ones having a pretty good time consistently,” per Page Six.

After revealing that his niece has Down syndrome, he said, “[I] thought that was going to get a bigger laugh … This place is extremely well-lit. I can see everyone not enjoying it.”

Despite the controversial jokes, fan-favorite Bowen Yang still gave Gillis a big hug during their final goodbyes at the end of the episode.

Tires will premiere on Netflix on May 23.
