Goosebumps has been renewed for a second season on Disney+.

Disney Branded Television announced the news at a presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, according to Deadline.

It was also revealed that Season 2 will convert the series into an anthology and will only have eight episodes as opposed to the 10 that the first season had. As such, Season 2 will be set in an entirely new locale with a brand new cast. It will continue to be based on R.L. Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.

“Audiences everywhere fell in love with the series’ chills, thrills, heart and humor, making it one of Disney Branded Television’s most-watched shows of last year,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We can’t wait to dive deeper into the brilliant mind of R.L. Stine, and to collaborate once again with Sony Pictures Television, Scholastic Entertainment, and our fantastic creative team to bring an entirely new mystery to Disney+ for season two.”

Season 2 will center on “teenage siblings” who “discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery,” according to the official description. “As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

According to Disney, Season 1 of Goosebumps (which debuted in October 2023) drew 4.2 million total views globally across Disney+ and Hulu within its first three days. The cast included Ana Yi Puig, Miles McKenna, Will Price, Justin Long, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, and Rachael Harris.

“We are incredibly proud of the work of our writers, producers, cast and crew and the vision they brought to season one, which a new generation of fans are loving alongside those who grew up in R.L. Stine’s iconic world,” said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “Like when you cracked open a new book in the ‘Goosebumps’ series, we can’t wait to see how the writers flip the show on its head as we explore the series as an anthology. Thanks to Disney Branded Television, who remain steadfast partners throughout this wonderfully chilling journey.”

Nicholas Stoller developed the series with Rob Letterman and both serve as executive producers. Hilary Winston serves as executive producer and showrunner. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film also executive produce along with Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, in addition to Conor Welch and Erin O’Malley.

Sony Pictures Television Studios produces the Disney Branded Television series. Both Original Film and Stoller have overall TV deals with Sony.
