New Movies on Streaming: ‘American Fiction,’ ‘I.S.S.’ + More

The Oscar-nominated film American Fiction is new on VOD this week, so if you haven’t checked it out, add it to your list immediately. Also available on demand is I.S.S., the science-fiction film about a tense battle between the U.S. and Russian astronauts aboard the international space station.

And in The Book of Clarence, LaKeith Stanfield stars as a man named Clarence who, in 33 A.D., sees the opportunity to declare himself the new messiah and gain followers in an attempt to get himself out of debt. Omar Sy, Teyana Taylor, Anna Diop and Alfre Woodard all co-star in the Biblical satire that’s out now.

American Fiction

In American Fiction, Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk Ellis, a critically respected writer whose books are a commercial flop. When he writes a novel that’s a satire of Black culture, filled with stereotypes and offensive tropes, it becomes a smash hit to his surprise and horror. The film has been nominated for 5 Oscars this year, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Wright, Best Supporting Actor for Sterling K. Brown, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

I.S.S.

I.S.S. is a new sci-fi thriller that takes place within the tight confines of the international space station. Ariana DeBose, John Gallagher Jr., and Chris Messina star as American astronauts who, along with their Russian counterparts, witness a nuclear war on earth as they’re perched in spaced. Each group is given orders to commandeer the space station so that the other side can’t control it, and a dramatic, claustrophobic battle ensues between everyone on board.
