Where to Stream:

Poor Things

Poor Things will be available for purchase on digital platforms starting tomorrow, which means you’ll now be able to watch Emma Stone deliver the performance of a lifetime from the comfort of your couch.

Written and directed by  Yorgos Lanthimos (The FavouriteThe Lobster), Poor Things stars Stone stars as a formerly dead woman resurrected by a macabre scientist, Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), who puts the brain of an infant baby in her head. It may sound like a bizarre premise, but critics and the Academy adored the film—it’s been nominated for 11 awards at the 2024 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Stone. Also starring Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youseff, and Jerrod Carmichael, Poor Things is ultimately a feminist coming-of-age film, and easily one of the best films of 2023.

If you missed Poor Things when it opened in theaters in December, now’s your chance to watch Poor Things online. Read on for all the info on the Poor Things digital release, and when we expect to see Poor Things streaming on Hulu.

Where to watch Poor Things online:

Poor Things will be released on digital on Tuesday, February 27. Starting tomorrow, you will be able to buy Poor Things on platforms like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but the suggested price is $14.99 to buy. Poor Things is not yet available to rent online, but a Disney representative told Decider that the movie will become available to rent on March 12.

Poor Things will also be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 12. Both the digital and the DVD/Blu-Ray release will include behind-the-scenes extras, including a featurette titled “Possessing Beauty,” which features cast and crew interviews about the making of the movie; and three deleted scenes, titled “Brothel Doctor,” “Aflie’s Chapter,” and “Bella’s Notebook.” (Access to these bonus features may vary, depending on which platform you use to purchase the film.)

When will Poor Thing be on streaming?

Poor Things is not yet available for free on any of the subscription streaming services, but we suspect that Poor Things will eventually be streaming on Hulu. Poor Things was a Searchlight Pictures release, a studio that is owned by Disney. Most Disney-owned films that are not appropriate for children—which would certainly include the R-rated sex scenes in Poor Things—are sent to the Disney-owned streamer Hulu, rather than the family-friendly platform Disney+.

For example, another Searchlight movie, Next Goal Wins, began streaming on Hulu on February 15, 2024—about one month after the film was released on digital platforms, and about three months after the movie opened in theaters. If Poor Things follows a similar release strategy, you may see Poor Things streaming on Hulu around late March or early April 2024.

That said, Hulu is supposed to merge with Disney+ any day now, and we’re not yet sure what that will mean for the streaming release of R-rated Searchlight titles. Plus, Searchlight has not been consistent about if and when its titles go to Hulu, so take this guess with a grain of salt. If you want to watch Poor Things online ASAP, you’ll be able to buy the film online starting tomorrow.
