Since splitting up from his business partner Desus Nice, Kid Mero launched his own podcast with former NBA star Carmelo Anthony, titled 7PM in Brooklyn, where the pair recently sat down to discuss the dramatic end to Mero’s partnership.

“At first, I was upset,” Mero admitted while sitting down with Anthony and Joe Budden. “It’s the business, there’s no friends in the business. And I was in a situation where I got four kids, two mortgages,… The taxes are crazy. I got real life situations going on.”

He explained that the first sign of trouble came when they were offered a deal with DraftKings, the sports betting company. But Nice wasn’t interested, according to Mero. “This is going places bro we need to do this,” he said. “And [Nice is] like, ‘Nah,’ I’m like fuck out of here. To me, that’s the beginning of this shit is corroded.”

He added that they also disagreed over whether to make a movie with Judd Apatow, the filmmaker behind Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Mero explained that the movie had already been written, but Desus admitted he wasn’t “really feeling” it. “When you’re doing a movie with [Apatow], you’re not really doing a movie with this guy,” Mero said. “This guy’s like a kingmaker. You make a banger with him, you’re solidified. That’s what takes you up to the next level.”

He mentioned that he felt like he and Nice “were in two different places in life” and wanted different things from the brand they were building together.

But Nice responded to Mero’s comments on X with a single GIF, in true Bodega Boys fashion:

He also liked a tweet from a user who commented on the podcast clip, writing, “IDK. From this clip, it seems like Mero let it slip that he admits Desus was the more sought after talent.”

The pair officially announced their split in 2022, ending their critically acclaimed talk show Desus & Mero after four seasons. A statement from the show explained that they would be “pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward.”

It doesn’t look like their partnership will be mended – at least for now. Later on in the podcast, Anthony asked Mero if he felt like he could ever have another conversation with Nice.

“Possibly, I never say never,” Mero replied. But he added, “I don’t think it could be fixed. Man to man, he’s on another creative pathway now.”
