All Creatures Great and Small, the darling veterinarian drama that completed its Season 4 run on Masterpiece on Feb. 18 and featured in Decider’s 2024 Period Drama TV Preview, has been renewed for Seasons 5 and 6.

According to a press release, “the series will continue to bring the stories of James Herriot to life as we return to Darrowby to join our unconventional much-loved Skeldale Family and the colourful ensemble of farmers, animals and townsfolk living in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1940s.”

Produced by Playground for Channel 5 and Masterpiece with All3Media International, the show is based on “the beloved and iconic collection of stories” written by James Herriot, an author and veterinary surgeon whose real was James Alfred “Alf” Wight, per PBS. The two upcoming seasons will be shot in Yorkshire on location.

Next season, fans will reunite with the familiar faces of Nicholas Ralph‘s James Herriot, Samuel West‘s Siegfried Farnon, Anna Madeley‘s Mrs. Hall, Rachel Shenton‘s Helen Herriot, James Anthony-Rose’s Richard Carmody, and Patricia Hodge’s Mrs. Pumphrey. Additionally, Callum Woodhouse is back as Tristan Farnon, who “makes an unexpected return later in the season.”

Playground’s Executive Producer and CEO Sir Colin Callender CBE highlighted that “kindness and decency are increasingly rare qualities these days, so it is a blessing to be able to return to the sanctuary of Skeldale House and James Herriot’s beloved characters who represent all that is the best in us.”
