‘Outlander’ Prequel ‘Blood Of My Blood’ Kicks Off Production And Casts Jamie And Claire’s Parents

Get ready, Outlander fans! Production on the first installment of the highly anticipated Starz drama’s prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, has officially begun. According to a press release, the new series is set to follow Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents.

Harriet Slater (Pennyworth, Belgravia: The Next Chapter) will star as Jamie’s mother Ellen MacKenzie, while Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest) will play his father, Brian Fraser.

As for Claire’s parents, her mother Julia Moriston will be played by The Road Dance star Hermione Corfield, and her father Henry Beauchamp will be portrayed by War Horse and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star Jeremy Irvine.

Just like the original series, the new show will be shot in Scotland, but will focus on the two couples’ “parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.”

Matthew B. Roberts, who serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on both Outlander and Blood of My Blood, said that they are “thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples.”

“The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie,” he added.

While Outlander‘s Season 7 Part 1 finale aired last August, the show will return for the second half of the season later this year with eight new episodes. The series was also renewed for an eighth season comprised of ten episodes, that will soon start production in Scotland.
