Eddie Driscoll, the actor who starred in shows like in Mad Men, Days of Our Lives and Sex and the City, has died. He was 60.

Actor Jimmy Palumbo, who was Driscoll’s lifelong friend, confirmed to People that he died on Dec. 15 from a saddle pulmonary embolism — which Yale Medicine describes as a large blood clot in the pulmonary artery that blocks blood flow to both lungs. His death came after a months-long battle with stomach cancer.

“He could do it all – sing, dance, act, comedy,” Palumbo told the outlet. “He worked all the time. He was always booking work. Everyone that worked with him loved him.”

He added, “It got tough there at the end, but he was a trooper. He hung on as long as he could.”

Born in New York in 1963, Driscoll got his start at the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre, where he studied acting alongside stars like Carol Burnett and Reynolds himself, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He later appeared in the Reynolds-led flicks Physical Evidence and Breaking In as well as episodes of the actor’s TV shows B.L. Stryker and Evening Shade.

Throughout his career, Driscoll held small roles in episodes of hit shows like Sex and the City, Drake & Josh, Entourage, Desperate Housewives, Mad Men, and, most recently, This Is Us. The actor also played various characters throughout eight episodes of Days of Our Lives and held a recurring role as Randall Croft in the TNT sci-fi series The Last Ship, per his IMDb.

He further starred in the 1999 crime drama Lansky, the 2002 rom-com Boat Trip and the 2004 action-thriller Cellular.

A memorial was reportedly held in Driscoll’s honor in January.

“So many people showed up,” Palumbo told People. “I call it the underbelly of L.A. showbiz. There were stars in the room, there were working actors, but there was also this underbelly… His friend base was pretty interesting.”

Driscoll is survived by his brother, Danny.
