Country music singer and American Idol star Alex Miller was involved in a fatal car accident in Kentucky earlier this week. According to a statement from the singer, Miller and his band were left uninjured, but the driver of the other vehicle involved died as a result of the accident.

Kentucky State Police announced Wednesday (Feb. 14) that they responded to a two-vehicle collision in Rockcastle County. According to a release from the police, 53-year-old local James M. Mcpheron lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the path of Miller’s tour bus, which was operated by 43-year-old Roger D. Miller.

Mcpheron was transported to the local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Miller’s team shared a statement to his social media addressing the incident.

“While traveling back from a vacation, country recording star Alex Miller and several members of his band were on a bus that was hit by a car,” the statement reads. It later notes, “No one on the bus was injured.”

“Sadly, the driver of the car is deceased,” the statement continues. “Alex sends his thoughts and prayers to the gentleman and his family.”

The statement from “Team Alex” also mentions that Kentucky State Police are still investigating the accident.

Miller’s manager told New York Post that “the car glanced off the bus and went approximately 250 feet beyond the impact.” The manager added that the impact cracked the door of Miller’s tour bus, forcing Miller and his bandmates to exit through a window.

“It was a very, very, very unfortunate situation,” Miller’s manager said. “It’s just horrible.”

In a statement to People, Miller’s manager also said that Miller is “very sorry that the driver of the car is deceased.”

The country star is a Kentucky native himself, hailing from rural Lancaster. He launched his music career after competing on American Idol Season 19 when he was just 17 years old.

Miller made it to “Hollywood Week,” but was eliminated before he made it to the Top 24.
