Larry David seemed to have trouble curbing his enthusiasm — or rather, outrage — while meeting a certain Sesame Street star.

Just after Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb were kicking it over to Al Roker to present the weather on The Today Show this morning, viewers could hear Kotb’s voice saying, “Wait, wait, wait!”

The cameras panned back to the three stunned co-anchors on the couch, where alongside them, the Curb showrunner was spotted jokingly attacking Elmo, who stopped by the NBC morning show with his father Louie. David grabbed his head, took a fake swing at him, and squeezed his face prior to walking off.

Guthrie exclaimed to David, “Oh my gosh! You love Elmo, don’t you!”

Elmo himself even chimed in, telling the comic, “Elmo loved you before!”

Louie urged David to “ask permission before you touch people,” while Guthrie told David that he had “gone too far this time.” Really, only this time?

David, in typical fashion, exclaimed from off-camera, “Somebody had to do it!”

He eventually made up with Elmo after Guthrie and Kotb encouraged him to issue Elmo an apology “from [his] heart.”

“I just want to apologize,” he told Elmo, who graciously accepted his apology despite David cracking up shortly after, per The Wrap.

Elmo’s Today Show appearance arrived just three days after a certain infamous tweet of his sparked an outpouring of emotional responses from fans on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter), per CNN.

“Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?” he wrote on Monday morning.

The tweet has since been viewed nearly 200 million times, with people replying to air their grievances and honestly open up about their struggles.

“I’m at my lowest. Thanks for asking,” one wrote, as someone shared that they “just got laid off,” and another simply put, “we are not ok.”

Various stars have responded to the post, including Chance the Rapper, who said he’s “in a really good place rn (right now),” Rainn Wilson, who felt he “frankly could use a little support,” and even President Joe Biden, who highlighted “how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days.”

Elmo replied the following day, telling fans that he’s “glad he asked” how they were.

“Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing,” he continued. “Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you. #EmotionalWellBeing.”

As for how he’s doing, Elmo told The Today Show that he’s “really, really happy,” and “glad that he got to talk to a lot of people and see how they’re doing.”
