Whoopi Goldberg had to pause to catch her breath while reading a lengthy teleprompter script on this morning’s episode of The View, prompting the longtime moderator to scold the show’s writers for failing to make things “a little simpler” for her.

Goldberg’s sudden outburst came at the end of a Hot Topics segment as she promoted the new Disney+ series Iwájú.

“Walt Disney Animation Studio’s all-new six-part animated series Iwájú is an exciting coming-of-age series set in futuristic Lagos, Nigeria and begins streaming today,” she read off the teleprompter.

“And go behind the scenes with Iwájú: A Day Ahead, the documentary special produced by ABC News and Disney Animation,” Goldberg continued as she briefly stopped to catch her breath. “Check them both out now on Disney+.”

Before tossing to the commercial break, Goldberg called out the show’s writers for the long-winded description.

“My lord! Good god! We could’ve said it a little simpler, couldn’t we?” she remarked, before suggesting the alternative, “There’s a great new show on Disney+, check it out!”

After Sunny Hostin added, “With ABC News Studios,” Goldberg fired back, “We didn’t have to say all that. They would’ve figured it out!”

The EGOT recipient eventually closed out the segment, telling the audience, “But we have to go and come right back because if we don’t, they get us in trouble.”

This isn’t the first time Goldberg has had a tense exchange with an off-camera colleague. Back in May 2023, she was forced to walk back her claims that American Idol was “the downfall of society” after executive producer Brian Teta awkwardly reminded her that the singing competition show now airs on ABC, which is the same network that airs The View.

“When I was watching it, ABC didn’t have it. They have it now. It’s a different show. The judges are different with the people who are coming,” Goldberg explained. “ABC knows that I feel like this. I’ve told them. It had nothing to do with them. It had to do with the show.”

She then turned to Teta and said, “See? You starting stuff, man!”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
