New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Tokyo Vice, One Day, Upgraded + More
Tokyo Vice, the Michael Mann-produced crime series on Max, is back for an action-packed second season. The show, once again filmed on location in Japan, dives even deeper into an American journalist’s investigation into Japan’s criminal underworld. On Netflix, the new romantic-drama-comedy-tearjerker series One Day drops all 14 of its episodes this week, and on Prime Video, you can watch Camila Mendes fake it till she makes it in her new rom-com film Upgraded.
New on Max February 8: Tokyo Vice (Season 2)
The first season of Max’s crime thriller Tokyo Vice ended in 2022 and feels like forever ago, but the second season picks up right where season one left off, with journalist Jake Adelstein (Ansel Elgort) meeting up with Tokyo police detective Hiroto Katagiri (Ken Watanabe) and chasing down the Yakuza after the murder of a young woman. In their dangerous quest to expose those at the heart of the crime, they face corruption from within their own ranks, and the mobsters who want them to stand down. The first two episodes of the new season are available now, with new episodes premiering weekly.
New on Netflix February 9: One Day
You might think you’ve already seen One Day, and you very well might have: the new Netflix series based on David Nicholls’ best-selling book was already turned into an Anne Hathaway movie back in 2011. But this 14-episode series draws out the story of the decades-long relationship between Em (Ambika Mod) and Dex (Leo Woodall), friends who meet in college and don’t quite hook up, but keep their romantic feelings simmering for one another for nearly 20 years.
New on Prime Video Friday, February 9: Upgraded
Camila Mendes, Archie Renaux, and Marisa Tomei star in the new Prime Video original film Upgraded, out today on the platform. Mendes stars as a young woman desperate to work in a top art gallery. When she gets the opportunity to go to London to help with an art show, she meets a handsome man (Renaux) on her flight and lies about who she is and what her job is, falling deeper and deeper into the deception. But she really likes him! And now she’s stuck in a lie! Hijinks ensue in this rom-com that’s the perfect way to prep for Valentine’s Day.
